Getting Ready for Your Smart Meter.

The installation of your Smart Meter is the first step in the wider Smart Grid installation process.

“What should I expect during installation?”

What your new Smart Meter looks like:

Smart Meters are electric meters that can transmit data directly to and from Lakeland Electrics’ offices. As a result of this “two-way” communications capability, meter readers will no longer need to come to your home or business to collect your meter data. The new Smart Meters won’t interfere with any of your home or business electronics and will be installed by professionally trained meter technicians.

Here’s what to expect on your installation day:

  • A uniformed meter technician from Scope Services, Inc. – the company performing the work on behalf of Lakeland Electric – will install your new Smart Meter.
  • The technician will be driving a white Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck, which will be marked with “Plug into Smart” graphics and the Lakeland Electric logo. The technician will also be wearing a photo I.D. badge.
  • When your Smart Meter is installed, there may be a brief interruption of service – usually less than two minutes. Digital clocks may need to be reset, cordless phones may need to be unplugged and plugged back in, etc.
  • Installation appointments will not be necessary unless the Scope Services technician cannot install your Smart Meter. If this is the case, the technician will leave a door hanger with appointment scheduling instructions.
  • Scope Services, Inc. has four decades of installation experience, and they have hired workers from our community to assist with this work.
